Commencement Concert showcases the Class of 2012
The Yale School of Music presents its annual Commencement Concert on Sunday afternoon, May 20, 2012.
The hour-long program showcases outstanding graduating performers who have come from around the world to study at Yale. Performers include virtuosi from the School’s string, wind, percussion, voice, and piano departments performing a diverse program.
The concert begins at 4:00 pm in Sprague Memorial Hall (corner of College and Wall Streets, New Haven). Admission is free.
Robert Blocker, Dean of the Yale School of Music, introduced the School’s Commencement Concerts in 1996; for many parents and friends of graduating students then, the concerts offered the first opportunity to hear live concerts with School of Music performers.
As the last event in the School’s concert season, the Commencement Concert also provides an opportunity for concertgoers in the Yale and New Haven communities to enjoy a final program by outstanding student performers.
Sunday’s concert features vocal selections by Schumann, Fauré, and Strauss, and instrumental pieces by Schubert, Ernst, Stjepan Šulek, Bright Sheng, Chen Yi, and Jacob Druckman, for instruments as varied as the trombone, marimba, clarinet, piano, and violin.
