Baroque cellist Phoebe Carrai gives master class Nov. 29
The distinguished Baroque cellist Phoebe Carrai will give a master class on Thursday, November 29, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The master class, which is free and open to the public, is generously sponsored by the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments. The event takes place in Leigh Hall (435 College Street), Room 402.
Phoebe Carrai performs internationally with such groups as Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, the Handel and Haydn Society, Arcadian Academy, and Concert Royal. She is a founding member of the Van Swieten Quartet and the International Baroque Institute at Longy.
She is on the faculties of the Juilliard School, Longy School of Music (Cambridge, Mass.), and of the Conservatory of the Arts (Berlin, Germany).
Ms. Carrai earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the New England Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Laurence Lesser. Upon graduating, she was awarded a Beebe foundation grant and studied in Salzburg with Nicolaus Harnoncourt. For ten years she was a member of Musica Antiqua Koln, touring and teaching in the United States, Scandinavia, Asia, and Australia.
Ms. Carrai has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Archiv, Decca, Harmonia Mundi Germany, and BMG.
