Arrival at the Yale School of Music

On the day of your audition, please check in at the following location after 8:00am. You will receive a check-in sheet with your audition and warm-up location.

*Note that the entrance to the Adams Center is via the parking lot next to Leigh Hall (435 College Street). Follow the path past the front door of Leigh Hall and you will see the entrance to the Adams Center on your right.

Practice Rooms

On the day of your audition, you will be assigned a warm-up room for 30–60 minutes directly before your audition. You will be guaranteed the use of this room. For additional practice, you may use Yale’s practice rooms on the day of your audition and one day before. Practice rooms will not be available on other days. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the following locations:

Adams Center for the Musical Arts  8:00 am – 11:00 pm daily. On Sunday, February 19, the hours are 10:00 am – 8:00 pm.

Sprague Hall (470 College Street) 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm (daily). On Sunday, February 19 and Saturday, February 25, Sprague Hall will not be available for use. Enter Sprague Hall through the main doors on College Street and go downstairs one level to the practice facility. If the doors are locked, someone will be available inside to open the door.

Travel & Hotels


Three local hotels are offering a reduced rate for School of Music applicants. Both are in easy walking distance of the School of Music. To reserve a room, call the hotel and mention the “Yale School of Music Audition Rate.” (You may book rooms by email at the Omni or Quinnipiack Club.)

New Haven Hotel: (800) 644-6835. Address: 229 George Street, New Haven, CT 06510. Rate is $99/night plus tax. Ask for the “Yale School of Music Auditions rate.” Detailed reservation information is available here.

Omni Hotel: 203 974-6716 or To make a reservation, do not use the Omni website. Please email Lorey O’Neill directly or call (and ask for Lorey O’Neill). Address: 155 Temple Street, New Haven, CT 06510. Rate is $99/night plus 15% tax.

Quinnipiack Club: 203 562-3147. Address: 221 Church Street, New Haven, CT 06510. Rates range from $99/night for a room with 2 twin beds, $129 for a single queen room, or $140/night for a suite (plus 15% tax). Call the hotel directly to get the Yale rate or send an email.

Courtyard by Marriott: 203 777-6221 or (203) 654-2405. Students may also make a reservation by email. Address: 30 Whalley Avenue, New Haven, CT 06511. Rate is $158/night plus 15% tax.

Other hotel options can be found on The Visitor Center’s Lodging page. Note that the closest hotels (within easy walking distance) are The Quinnipiack Club, the Omni, the New Haven Hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott, and The Study.

From Union Station to campus. Once you reach Union Station, we strongly encourage you to take a taxi to campus. There is a taxi stand right outside the station and there are always taxis available. A taxi will cost $8-$10. There are also free Yale shuttles from Union Station to campus that run every 20-30 minutes (you will want to get off at the College Street stop). To return to Union Station after your audition, you may take a Yale shuttle (the RED LINE) or you can call a taxi (Metro Taxi phone: 203-777-7777). Please do not walk from the train station.
