All-City Honors Ensembles
The Yale Music in Schools Initiative, in collaboration with New Haven Public Schools, offers the All-City Honors Ensembles during the school year. Students are selected by audition and may participate in 8 different choir, orchestra, and band ensembles.
From Fall through Spring, graduate teaching artists and New Haven teachers instruct and mentor students in large ensembles, sectionals, an chamber music. Over 200 students participated in the ensembles in 2015-2016, representing about 1% of all students in New Haven Public Schools.
The All-City Honors Ensembles provides tuition-free performance opportunities for students beyond the activities they have in their home schools. In addition, the ensembles provide practical training and work for graduate teaching artists. They work in collaboration with the ensemble conductors, most of whom are New Haven Public School music teachers.

Participants are expected to maintain membership in their schools’ music ensembles as well, if available.

The season culminates with several public concerts in Sprague Hall at the Yale School of Music. Membership in the group comprises musicians from schools throughout New Haven, who are admitted to the Band based on auditions in October each year.
