Practice Spaces

Practice space is available in several locations at the School of Music. The lower level of Sprague Hall and the building at 320 Temple Street both house numerous practice rooms.

Access is granted via Yale ID cards to students of the School of Music, and students may sign up for designated practice times. Leigh Hall offers additional practice space and can accommodate rehearsals of small chamber ensembles. Large ensembles, such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, rehearse in Hendrie Hall and on the stage of Woolsey Hall.

Many faculty at the School of Music choose to make their private studios available to their students for individual practice and chamber rehearsals. Specialized spaces are also available, such as the percussion studio in Hendrie Hall and the array of organs on the Yale campus.

The Yale School of Music is an all-Steinway school. All pianos are recently built and are maintained in excellent condition by a staff of piano curators.

Undergraduates who are taking lessons for credit through the School of Music are eligible for access to practice rooms. For Yale College students who are not studying at the School of Music, practice facilities are available in Hendrie Hall and in some of the residential colleges. Practice facilities at the Yale School of Music are not open to the general public.
