Practice Spaces

The Yale School of Music maintains numerous practice rooms for student use. There are also larger rooms available for ensemble rehearsals. Many faculty members allow their students to practice in their studios.

Certain spaces on campus are open to all Yale students, while others are reserved for Yale School of Music students. Yale University does not have practice rooms available for the general public.

Sprague Hall

There are several practice rooms located in the basement of Sprague Hall. These are open to School of Music students and to Yale students who are taking music lessons for credit through the Undergraduate Lessons Program. Access is with your Yale ID.

Hendrie Hall

Hendrie Hall has several practice modules on the top floor that are open to all Yale students. Any Yale student can request card access to Hendrie.

The building also houses large rehearsal rooms for the University Bands, Glee Club, and other ensembles.

Residential Colleges

Some of Yale’s residential colleges, including Davenport, Jonathan Edwards, and Pierson, have practice rooms. This is not an exhaustive list; undergraduates should check whether a particular residential college has practice rooms.

Leigh Hall

Parker Recital Hall and other classrooms in Leigh Hall are often available for ensemble rehearsals. In addition, many YSM professors allow their students to practice in their studios.

320 Temple St

320 Temple Street is a dedicated practice facility for Yale School of Music students and Yale students who are taking music lessons through the Undergraduate Lessons Program for credit.
