Yale now has a regular presence in the vital concert scene of New York City. Beginning in 2007, the School of Music introduced a five-concert series at Carnegie Hall as well as more intimate piano perfomances in Steinway Hall. The annual series at Carnegie, under the artistic direction of David Shifrin, offers programs in all three halls: Stern Auditorium, Zankel Hall, and Weill Recital Hall.
The variety of halls allows for a broad variety of programming; last season, for example, included a recital of Ives songs in Weill Hall, chamber music for strings in Zankel Hall, and an all-Prokofiev orchestral program in Stern Auditorium. The Steinway Hall recitals feature outstanding piano students as well as piano alumni.
The Yale School of Music announces an especially exciting third season of Yale in New York. From September 26 through April 30, four concerts will feature the classical legacy of Benny Goodman, undiscovered Prokofiev, Penderecki conducting Penderecki, and great voices from the famed Oral History of American Music project.
