Julian Pellicano ’09MM named resident conductor of Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra

Julian Pellicano ’07MM, ’09MM has been appointed the resident conductor of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in Manitoba, Canada. He will lead the orchestra in Pops, Soundbytes, Concerts for Kids, Specials, and educational concerts. The appointment begins in September 2013.

In addition to his duties with the WSO, Pellicano will join the conducting faculty of the University of Manitoba and serve as the music director of the University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra.

Pellicano studied music at the Peabody Conservatory, the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and the Yale School of Music. At Yale, he earned Master of Music degrees in percussion and orchestral conducting. MORE

Yale Opera announces casting for Iolanta

Yale Opera in Morse Recital Hall

Yale Opera has announced the casting for its upcoming production of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta. The opera, which will be performed May 3 and 4, is a fairy tale about a princess who experiences the transformative power of love.

The rising young director Michael Gieleta makes his Yale Opera debut as the stage director for Iolanta. Timothy Shaindlin is the musical director for the production’s lush score. Doris Yarick-Cross is the artistic director of Yale Opera. MORE
