Matthew Polenzani to give master class with Yale Opera Dec. 2

Yale Opera is delighted to announce that world-renowned tenor and Yale Opera alumnus Matthew Polenzani ’94MM will give a master class in Sprague Hall on Monday, December 2 at 7 pm.

One of the most gifted and distinguished lyric tenors of his generation, Matthew Polenzani has been praised for the artistic versatility and fresh lyricism that he brings to concert and operatic appearances on leading international stages. This season Mr. Polenzani returns to the Metropolitan Opera in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, conducted by James Levine, and in Verdi’s Rigoletto, opposite Dmitri Hvorostovky and Alexandra Kurzak. He is Massenet’s Des Grieux in Laurent Pelly’s production of Manon at the Royal Opera Covent Garden, and he makes his role debut as Tito in David McVicar’s production of La Clemenza di Tito at Lyric Opera of Chicago, opposite Joyce DiDonato. Thanks to the generosity of Yale alumnus Frederick Iseman ’74BA, the Yale School of Music and the Gilmore Music Library now offer Met Opera on Demand: Student Access.

Met Opera on Demand includes dozens of productions from the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, featuring opera superstars such as Natalie Dessay, Plácido Domingo, Renée Fleming, Juan Diego Flórez, Elīna Garanča, Anna Netrebko, and Deborah Voigt, among many more. Classic Met telecasts from 1977–2001 include Aida starring Leontyne Price, La Bohème starring Luciano Pavarotti and Renata Scotto, Otello with Jon Vickers in the title role, and more. MORE

The Yale School of Music presents the guitarist Simon Powis in a Doctor of Musical Arts recital on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 8 pm. Powis has garnered attention as a talented soloist, chamber musician, and innovator. Growing up in Sydney, Australia, Powis began his studies as the age of five on the cornet.
