Yale Philharmonia plays New Music for Orchestra Dec. 12


The Yale School of Music presents the Philharmonia Orchestra of Yale led by conductor Shinik Hahm on Thursday, December 12, 2013. The concert takes place at 8 pm in Woolsey Hall (500 College Street, New Haven).

The concert features music by four composers currently studying at the Yale School of Music. On the program are Bálint Karosi’s Dancescapes: three dances for orchestra, James Rubino’s Shall Efface, Benjamin Wallace’s Five Gifts for an Old Friend, and Brendon Randall-Myers’s Indefatigable Optimism.

Admission is free, and no tickets are required.  MORE

‘Bassoonarama’ features tangos and more Dec. 9


YSM bassoonists in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall

The Yale School of Music presents Bassoonarama, a recital by the Yale School of Music bassoon studio, on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 7 pm.

The recital takes place at Sudler Recital Hall in William L. Harkness Hall (100 Wall St., New Haven, adjacent to Sprague Hall).

The program opens with Julius Fučik’s Entry of the Gladiators. A parade of tangos will follow: Tango Suite by Astor Piazzolla, Tango for Three Bassoons by Manuel Martinez, and Last Tango in Bayreuth by Peter Schickele.

The students will then perform The Grouchy Old Bear, another piece by Fučik. The event concludes with jazz and holiday tunes for the winter season. MORE

Christine Gangelhoff ’95AD releases ‘Deep Blue’ with C Force

CForceYale School of Music alumna Christine Gangelhoff ’95AD recently released a new compact disc entitled Deep Blue with her ensemble, C Force.

In addition to Gangelhoff, a flutist, C Force is made up of Christian Justilien, euphonium, and Christy Lee, piano. The performers are all faculty members at The College of The Bahamas in Nassau on the island of New Providence. MORE
