Julian Pellicano, resident conductor at the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, appeared at the Winnipeg Free Press News Café for a feature chat with Canstar's John Kendle.

As resident conductor at the WSO, Pellicano, 33, is responsible for conducting the orchestra’s Pops, Soundbytes and Concerts for Kids series, among others. From Dec. 13 to 15, he will lead the WSO at Centennial Concert Hall in a pair of Pops concerts starring Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster, who returns to the WSO stage with a new orchestral show.

A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, the Peabody Conservatory, the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and Yale School of Music, Pellicano was named resident conductor in April and took up his duties in September. He also teaches conducting in the Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba and conducts the University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra.
