Grammy winner Virginia Warnkenreflects on win

At the recent Grammy Awards, Roomful of Teeth mezzo-soprano Virginia Warnken waved discreetly to her mother. Her mom saw it, and anyone watching that portion of the awards – untelevised but available on desktop or laptop – may have seen it, not knowing the wave was intended for someone special.

“The classical side of the Grammys is not something that’s paid much attention to,” Warnken said, noting that awards for classical music, along with technical and other less popular awards, often are not included in the network broadcast. MORE

YSM students to perform in Paris at Arts Arena recital

Three YSM students will perform in Paris, France in a recital presented by Arts Arena. David Leigh, bass; Claudia Rosenthal, soprano; and Esther Park, piano, will perform selections from Schubert to Sibelius and Puccini to Cole Porter.

The recital takes place Friday, March 7 at Hôtel de Talleyrand.

David Leigh and Claudia Rosenthal are part of the Yale Opera program, which is under the artistic direction of Doris Yarick Cross. Both will earn their Master of Music degrees this May.

Pianist Esther Park ’12 AD, ’13 MMA has recently won the José Roca Piano Competition and International Russian Music Competition. MORE
