YSM presents annual Commencement Concert May 18

Concert features graduating performs in music from Ravel to Rossini to Libby Larsen

Morse-stage-spragueThe Yale School of Music will celebrate the musical accomplishments of the Class of 2014 with a free commencement concert on Sunday, May 18 at 4 pm in Morse Recital Hall.

The performance will feature selected members of the graduating class performing a variety of repertoire. Pianist Larry Weng will play Maurice Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso. Michael Zuber, bassoon, and Michael Noble, piano, will play Libby Larsen’s Concert Piece for bassoon and piano. Cellist Sohyang Yoo will perform Intermezzo e Danza Finale from Gaspar Cassadó’s Cello Suite.

The ensemble of Isabel Lepanto Gleicher, flute; Timothy Gocklin, oboe; Tianyu Zhang, clarinet; Zachary Quortrup, horn; and Darren Hicks, bassoon, will play Carl Nielsen’s Wind Quintet, Op. 43.  Mezzo-soprano Aleksandra Romano will sing selections by Rossini, Grieg, and William Bolcom, accompanied by pianist Daniel Schlosberg. Antoine Malette-Chénier, harp, will play Marcel Grandjany’s Rhapsodie pour harpe, Op. 10.

The concert will close with Ravel’s Piano Trio, performed by Choha Kim, violin; Alan Ohkubo, cello; and Henry Kramer, piano. This event is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.
