Alumni Wenbin Jin, Kendra James take prizes in competitions

Pianist Wenbin Jin '09 MM, '15 AD wins third prize in China International Concerto Competition; Kendra James '12 MM wins Primrose Prize in the Primrose International Viola Competition

Pianist Wenbin Jin ’09 MM won third prize in the China International Concerto Competition. Twenty-eight Chinese pianists and seventeen overseas participants took part in the competition, which was held in Shenzhen, China. The competition is held every three years; the first was held in 2006.

Violist Kendra James ’12 MM won the Primrose Prize in the Primrose International Viola Competition, held in Los Angeles in June. The prize is for the best performance of a virtuoso transcription by the late William Primrose.

Kendra James was also a finalist and scholarship winner in the CMC (Canadian Music Competition/Concours de musique du Canada) / Canadian Music Competition “Stepping Stone,” held in Toronto in May.
