The Office of Career Strategies will kick off the new school year with an animated conversation featuring world-famous clarinetist and YSM professor David Shifrin. The event takes place Monday, September 22, 2014 from 4:30–6 pm in Sprague Hall.
Astrid Baumgardner, Coordinator of Career Strategies, will moderate the conversation, which will also include three YSM students: Christina Hughes, flute; Kevin Schaffter, clarinet; and Sam Suggs, double bass.
One of only two wind players to win the prestigious Avery Fisher Award, David Shifrin will share his insights on creating opportunities throughout one’s career. A generous colleague and mentor, Shifrin is a powerful role model for today’s musicians. Learn how he got his start in music and parlayed his talents into a rich career as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, artistic director, festival director and university professor.
The floor will open up for questions from the audience. Students should RSVP early to guarantee a seat. The event will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person.
