New Music New Haven

The composition program has long been one of the School of Music’s strongest. The New Music New Haven series showcases the talented young composers studying at the School as well as the elite faculty who nurture them. Most concerts present a work by a featured faculty or guest composer in addition to student works.

About

New Music New Haven concerts present solo and chamber works, an annual concert of orchestral works performed by the Yale Philharmonia, and occasionally pieces involving electronics and visual elements. All concerts on the series are free and open to the public.

In addition to presenting new works by graduate students, NMNH programs also feature an established living composer. Both YSM faculty and guests are among the featured composers. Guest composers work with YSM students on performances of selected works.

Guest composers in recent seasons have included George Crumb, Michael Daugherty, Kaija Saariaho, and Steve Reich.
