Instrumental Insights | Echoes: Ukraine | Russia
A look into the musical history of Ukraine and Russia with works of TCHAIKOVSKY, VASYL BARVINSKY, and MYKOLA LYSENKO.

SAT, JULY 8 | 8 PM
Brentano Quartet
The Brentano Quartet in a program of quartet works by JAMES MacMILLAN and MOZART. The evening ends with pianist Wei-Yi Yang joining the Quartet for ROBERT SCHUMANN's Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, Op. 44.

FRI, JULY 14 | 8 PM
Instrumental Insights | Drawing from Tradition
Pianist Melvin Chen, vocalist Ranjana Ghatak, and Norfolk Fellows come together to perform pieces in which composers weave multiple musical cultures together. Featured will be the Festival's 2023 Musical Bridges commission by JUHI BANSAL, which merges Western and North Indian classical styles.

Instrumental Insights | From Baroque to Beatles
You know the three ‘B’s. Here’s another three to think about: Baroque, Bonis, Beatles! Works of HANDEL, MÉLANIE BONIS, and a selection of BEATLES songs arranged by Luciano Berio.

Instrumental Insights | Musical Inspirations
Works of JOHANNES BRAHMS, WILLIAM GRANT STILL and ARNOLD SCHOENBERG illustrate how a composer's inspiration can be drawn from interesting sources.

Instrumental Insights | Rendezvous with Benny Goodman
The Miró Quartet and clarinetist David Shifrin in a program showcasing the versatility of the clarinet.

Emerson String Quartet
You will want to be a part of the Emerson's last Norfolk concert before they retire in the fall! They will perform works of SARAH KIRKLAND SNIDER, BEETHOVEN, and FELIX MENDELSSOHN's Viola Quintet with Steven Tenenbom.

Featuring the works of three prodigy composers — FELIX MENDELSSOHN, RICHARD STRAUSS and GEORGE ENESCU — each composing well before the tender age of 15, and two before age 10!

A spotlight on music from turn-of-the-century Britain. A program for strings, winds, and piano with works by BENJAMIN BRITTEN, GERALD FINZI, and EDWARD ELGAR.

Isn’t It Bliss? Sondheim on Love
A song-filled and visually stunning celebration of one of the most important figures in musical theater. Featuring Tony Award-winners Ted Sperling and Bryce Pinkham and Olivier Award-nominee Scarlett Strallen.

Season Finale: Choral Cantata
Yale School of Music choral conductor Jeffrey Douma leads a performance of FELIX MENDELSSOHN's Hymn of Praise, Op.52 — a highlight of the Music Shed’s first concert in 1906.
