The bassoon program at the Yale School of Music offers broad training in the solo repertoire as well as chamber music and orchestral performance. Bassoonists also explore topics such as reed making and pedagogical approaches. Many bassoon students choose to teach young musicians through the Music in Schools Initiative.
Chamber music is an integral part of the program, and students also play in various ensembles in the New Music New Haven series. The Yale Philharmonia is the primary ensemble for orchestral playing, covering a wide variety of repertoire with frequent opportunities to work with guest conductors.
