The tuba program at the Yale School of Music is small and focused, within the collaborative environment of the brass department. In addition to learning the solo repertoire, tuba students also play orchestral music as well as in chamber ensembles.
Students interested in teaching have opportunities to teach Yale undergraduates and to work with young musicians through the Music in Schools Initiative.
Brass players perform in various ensembles in the New Music New Haven series. The Yale Philharmonia is the primary ensemble for orchestral playing, covering a wide variety of repertoire and offering frequent opportunities to work with guest conductors.
