Informational meeting about DMA program Oct. 18, 2013

YSM students interested in applying to the DMA program are invited to an informational meeting on Friday, October 18 at 4:00 pm in Leigh 402 (Parker Hall).

The meeting will be hosted by Wei-Yi Yang and Michael Friedmann. Lily Sutton, the director of admissions, will be there as well to answer questions about the application.

Professors Yang and Friedmann will give an overview of the newly reconfigured DMA program and answer students’ questions about the program, application process, and entrance exams. YSM will no longer be accepting applications to the MMA program. All DMA applicants will apply directly to the DMA for entry in the fall; there is no separate internal process for YSM students.

The application deadline for fall 2014 is December 1, 2013. For your reference, application instructions can be found here. More information about the DMA can be found here.

Please email Lily Sutton to RSVP for the meeting on October 18.

This post was updated 10/18/2013 to reflect a change in venue.

School of Music welcomes 100 new students for next year

08-056_yalemusic_630The Yale School of Music is pleased to welcome next year’s incoming class to New Haven.

Every February, the most talented young musicians from around the world audition for an opportunity to continue their musical training with Yale’s distinguished faculty. The new incoming class is a diverse group of 100 exceptional musicians coming from 58 undergraduate institutions. International students, representing 21 countries from across the globe, make up half the incoming class.

This year’s admissions showed an unusually high yield of 78%, with ten studios – cello, clarinet, composition, conducting, flute, guitar, harp, oboe, trombone, and opera – enrolling 100% of admitted students. Admissions were extremely competitive, with 1270 applications (5% higher than the previous year) and an admission rate of 8.4%.
