The Yale School of Music presents the Orion String Quartet and the woodwind quintet Windscape in a performance of J. S. Bach’s masterful Art of the Fugue on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:30pm.

In this concert, Bach’s complete Art of the Fugue will be performed by one of today’s most sought-after string quartets and a wind quintet that has won renown for vibrant and inventive performances. The program, which premiered at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, has been recorded on Deutsche Grammophon.

The Boston Globe praises the performers as musicians with a “certain aura—that of the fabulously skilled, much sought-after… who can tackle anything.” MORE

Ashley Solomon and Terence Charlston perform at the Collection Nov. 3

The Yale Collection of Musical Instruments presents Ashley Solomon, baroque flute, and Terence Charlston, harpsichord, on Sunday, November 3.

The concert features music from the Baroque period, including selections by Quantz (a flutist himself), J.S. Bach, and his son C.P.E Bach. Solomon and Charlston are both members of the ensemble Florilegium, one of the U.K.’s finest period instrument ensembles.

The Yale Collection of Musical Instruments, one of the foremost institutions of its kind, preserves and exhibits musical instruments from antiquity to the present. Many instruments are maintained in playing condition and are featured in performances and demonstrations in the fine acoustic of the upstairs gallery, the venue for this performance. MORE

Yale Baroque Ensemble performs Bach Oct. 8

The Yale School of Music will present members of the Yale Baroque Ensemble in their first concert of the year on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. The program will focus on chamber music of J.S. Bach.

The Yale Baroque Ensemble (YBE) is a postgraduate ensemble whose members undertake a year of intensive study. The new members featured in this performance are Nayeon Kim, baroque violin, and Jurrian van der Zanden, baroque cello. They will be joined by harpsichordist David Fung. MORE
