Legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes’ Fountain of Youth Band performs at Yale Nov. 8

roy-haynes-rojaThe Ellington Jazz Series at the Yale School of Music presents Roy Hayes’ Fountain of Youth Band on Friday, November 8 at 8 pm.

As a jazz musician, Haynes is legendary. Winner of the 2011 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Haynes has spent decades as the drummer of choice for jazz stars like Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk, and John Coltrane.

He will be joined in this concert by Jaleel Shaw, alto saxophone; Martin Bejerano, piano; and David Wong, bass.

His nickname, “Snap Crackle,” comes from his “distinctive, rapid-fire sound of the snare, not to short-change his dynamic tom tombs, bass drum rolls, occasional vocals and dance steps” (NPR Jazz Set). MORE
