Benjamin Verdery celebrates 30 years at Yale with his own compositions Jan. 19

verdery_benThe Faculty Artist Series at the Yale School of Music presents guitarist Benjamin Verdery on Tuesday, January 19 at 7:30 pm.

Celebrating Verdery’s 30 years on the YSM faculty, the recital will feature Verdery playing his own compositions in collaboration with guest artists. Featured guests include guitarist Simon Powis ’08 MM, ’10 MMA, ’14 DMA, a former student of Verdery’s.

Beatboxer and vocal percussionist Mark Martin will team up with Verdery on the premiere of a new work. The concert will conclude with another collaborative piece featuring hip-hop artist Billy Dean, with whom Verdery has collaborated extensively. VIDEO MORE

Guitarist Simon Powis Gives Recital Oct.10

The Yale School of Music presents the guitarist Simon Powis in a Doctor of Musical Arts recital on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 8 pm. Powis has garnered attention as a talented soloist, chamber musician, and innovator. Growing up in Sydney, Australia, Powis began his studies as the age of five on the cornet. He took up the guitar at age eleven, beging an enduring pursuit that would lead to performances throughout Europe, Australia, and the Americas. MORE

YSM students perform at the Kennedy Center

kennedy-center-lobby_webFourteen students from the Yale School of Music will perform at the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington, DC on Monday, May 25 at 6:00 pm. The concert is part of the the Conservatory Project, a series of events presenting the finest young artists from the country’s foremost conservatories.

The varied program includes solo and ensemble performances of music by Haydn, Verdi, Bizet, and Prokofiev, as well as less well-known composers such as Keiko Abe, Jorge Morel, and Robert Beaser. Solo piano, guitar, and marimba are featured, as well as vocal works, a string quartet, and a brass quintet. MORE
