The Yale Collection of Musical Instruments presents the award-winning Tapestry Ensemble on Sunday, April 13 at 3:00 pm. The program, called “Song of Songs: Come Into My Garden,” weaves together settings of the sensual Old Testament text.
Tapestry features vocalists Laurie Monahan, Cristi Catt, and Daniela Tosic alongside Shira Kammen, playing vielle and harp, and Takaaki Masuko on percussion. The Boston-based ensemble has won numerous awards, including WQXR and Chamber Music America’s Recording of the Year and, most recently, the prestigious Echo Klassik Prize for their recording Sapphire Night. The Boston Globe calls them a “knockout,” while Gramophone lauds their performances as “utter perfection.”
Song of Songs: Come into my Garden brings together a multitude of interpretations of a 3,000 year-old text that has been described as both an erotic love song and an allegory in Jewish, Muslim, and Christian traditions. The program incorporates ancient Hebrew, medieval Latin, and Arabic, as well as new settings of the text. MORE
