First Annual JC Music Solo Competition

In collaboration with the Yale School of Music, Music in Schools Initiative

On Saturday, May 22, fifteen finalists from across Connecticut will compete in the first JC Music Solo Competition, a join venture of the Music in Schools Initiative of the Yale School of Music and JC Music (a music store and school in Meriden).The final round of the competition will begin at 10 am at the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center (175 East Main Street, Meriden).

The soloists range from 6th through 8th grades and hail from the following Connecticut counties: Simsbury, Meriden, New Haven, Oxford, Bethany, Berlin, Portland, Weston, East Hampton, and Plantsville. They will compete for eight prizes provided by JC Music World. The top prize is a $500 cash award.

Preliminary auditions were held April 29th through May 1 at JC Music, Meriden. After the preliminary round at JC Music, the top 30 audition scores will be entered into the final round to be held at the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center in Meriden, CT, 175 East Main Street, on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010, starting at 10am. Winners will be announced after the competition. The competition on May 22nd is free and open to the public.
