Morse Summer Music Academy: Application Form

The Morse Summer Music Academy is open to all New Haven Public School students entering 4th-12th grades (3rd-12th for choir). The program is available for woodwind, brass, strings (including guitar), percussion, and choir students. Applicants for the Academy must exhibit musical accomplishment, enthusiasm, and work habits conducive to an intensive music instruction program, including at least a "B" average on their NHPS report card, full participation in their school's music program (if available), and teacher approval. Interested students meeting these criteria may apply below.

Applications for Morse Summer Music Academy 2026 will open on February 1st of 2026.

Music Educators: Request a Teaching Artist Form

In order to request a Teaching Artist for your classroom, ensemble, and/or any other instrumental or choral program in your New Haven Public School, we ask that you complete the following form. Please note that submitting this request does not guarantee that you will be matched with a Teaching Artist. Teaching Artists will be assigned based on the compatibility of your request and their availability.

  • Q: Who is eligible to participate in the All-City Ensembles and/or Morse Summer Music Academy?
    A: To be eligible, students must:
    be enrolled in the New Haven Public Schools
    be in good academic standing
    be participating in their school’s music program, if available
    receive a recommendation from the school’s music teacher (and/or administrator)
  • Q: Is there an age requirement?
    A: Yes. Students in
    4th–12th grades (3rd–12th for choir) are eligible.
  • Q: Where do these lessons take place?
    A: Our lessons and rehearsals take place in New Haven, either on the Yale campus or at Neighborhood Music School on Audubon Street.
  • Q: What is the participation expectation?
    A: Participating students must commit to attending each rehearsal and the final concert. Please note: three absences will result in a dismissal from the program for that semester.
  • Q: Is it true these programs are tuition free?
    A: Yes! Both the All-City Ensembles and Morse Summer Music Academy are tuition-free programs that are generously supported by the Yale College Class of 57 and Enid and Lester Morse (YC ’51), respectively.
