Music in Schools Initiative

Partnerships with New Haven Public Schools

At the core of Music in Schools is a partnership with the New Haven Public Schools.

The Music in Schools Initiative collaborates with the New Haven Public Schools to provide paraprofessional support in music classrooms, All-City Ensemble opportunities, and the annual Morse Summer Music Academy. Each program fosters relationships between instructors and students while facilitating students' musical development through active music-making, performing, and responding to music. These programs cultivate a dynamic community between New Haven students, music educators, and Yale School of Music students, providing paraprofessional support as Teaching Artists.

We all share this really great passion for music, which is an amazing thing to have in common.
Jordan Lampo, Wilbur Cross High School Class of 2016, Yale College Class of 2020

All-City Ensembles

In this city-wide program, NHPS students from grades 3-12 rehearse weekly with their given ensembles. The All-City Ensembles are conducted by NHPS music educators and YSM Teaching Artists in preparation for final concerts at the end of each academic semester. NHPS students of any level of experience can participate in All-City Band (brass, percussion, woodwinds), All-City Strings (violin, viola, cello, guitar), or All-City Choir. Rehearsals are held in various locations, including the Neighborhood Music School, the Yale School of Music, and the Yale Divinity School. All activities are free of charge.
