Charles Ives and the American Tradition
Folk Inspirations
Ives, like the other composers on this program, used the folk music of his local region in his compositions. You’ll hear Ives’ use of the hymn in his fourth violin sonata, Boccherini’s use of Spanish folk songs, Bartók’s use of Hungarian folk tunes, and Brahms’s use of Romani music.
