Double Bass at YSM
The double bass program at the Yale School of Music offers students the opportunity to refine their technique and musicianship in a collaborative and creative environment while gaining a truer understanding of the physical aspects of playing the double bass. Double bassists take private lessons and participate in weekly studio seminars, which cover numerous topics including upcoming solo performances, orchestral audition preparation, extended techniques, and other areas students are interested in exploring.
All double-bass students participate in chamber music, an integral part of the Yale School of Music experience. They also play in various ensembles in the New Music New Haven concert series and in the School’s orchestra, the Yale Philharmonia, which offers students the experience of performing a wide variety of repertoire under the leadership of acclaimed guest conductors.
