Congratulations to YSM Grammy winners!
We're thrilled to share the news that several Yale School of Music alums and students received Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 2.
The Crossing, whose members include conductor Kevin Vondrak ’30DMA, vocalists Matthew Cramer ’17MM, James Reese ’18MM, won in the category of "Best Choral Performance" for their album OCHRE. Composer and vocalist Caroline Shaw ’07MM wrote the title track to the album.
Sō Percussion and composer and vocalist Caroline Shaw ’07MM won in the “Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance” category for Rectangles and Circumstance. Members of Sō Percussion include Eric Cha-Beach ’07MM, Adam Sliwinski ’03MM, ’04MMA, ’09DMA, Jason Treuting, ’01MM, ’02AD, and Josh Quillen ’06MM.
Gabriela Ortiz's album, Revolución Diamantina, won in the categories of "Best Orchestral Performance," "Best Classical Compendium," and "Best Contemporary Classical Composition" and was recorded live with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Master Chorale. Members of these ensembles include Jun Eun Kang '18MM '19MMA, Jin-Shan Dai '04, Emily Shehi '23MM, Mindy Ella Chu '15MM, Addy Sterrett '18MM, and David Dong-Geun Kim '09AD.
The album Saariaho: Adriana Mater won in the category of "Best Opera Recording," for its live recording by the San Francisco Symphony and Chorus, whose members include Jeein Kim '24MM, Gina Cooper '87MM, and Matthew Young '03MM.
An additional congratulations to Tim Gocklin, ‘14MM ‘15AD, oboist with the Akropolis Reed Quintet, which performed "Strands," a piece by Pascal Le Boeuf that won in the category of "Best Instrumental Composition."
