YSM alums nominated for Grammy Awards

2024 Grammys

We're incredibly proud of the YSM alums who were nominated on Nov. 10 for 2024 Grammy Awards! We hope you'll join us in rooting for these members of our community when the winners are announced on Feb. 4.

Here are the YSM alums who've been nominated. 

The Pacifica Quartet, whose members include violinist Austin Hartman ’06AD and cellist Brandon Vamos ’94MM ’95AD, was nominated in the “Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance” category for American Stories.

Roomful of Teeth was nominated in the “Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance” category for Rough Magic. Members of Roomful of Teeth include bass-baritone Dashon Burton ’11MM, mezzo-soprano Virginia Warnken Kelsey ’13MM, composer and vocalist Caroline Shaw ’07MM, and composer, conductor, and vocalist Brad Wells ’98MM ’05DMA, the ensemble's founder and co-Artistic Director.

Conductor Craig Hella Johnson ’90MMA ’95DMA and Conspirare were nominated in the “Best Choral Performance” category for The House of Belonging. Members of Conspirare include Maura Tuffy ’21MM ’22MMA.

A Far Cry was nominated in the “Best Contemporary Classical Composition” category for a recording of Jessie Montgomery’s Rounds. Members of A Far Cry include violinist Miki Cloud ’08MM and cellist Hannah Collins ’06BS ’08MM ’09AD.

Third Coast Percussion, whose members include David Skidmore ’08MM, was nominated in the “Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance” category for Between Breaths.

Composer Andy Akiho’11MM was nominated in the “Best Contemporary Classical Composition” category for In That Space, At That Time. Akiho was also nominated in the “Best Classical Instrumental Solo” and “Best Classical Compendium” categories for Cylinders and Sculptures, respectively.

Composer Missy Mazzoli ’06MM was nominated in the “Best Classical Compendium” and “Best Contemporary Classical Composition” categories for Dark with Excessive Bright.

The Knights, an ensemble whose members include flutist Christopher Johnson ’02MM and violinist Yayra Matyakubova ’06AD, received a nomination in the “Best Classical Compendium” category for Zodiac Suite.

The Harlem Quartet, whose members include cellist Felix Umansky ’12AD, received a nomination in the “Best Classical Compendium” category for Passion for Bach and Coltrane.

John Corigliano's The Lord of Cries was nominated in the "Best Opera Recording" category. Among the artists on the recording is soprano Leah Brzyski 19MM.

Congratulations are also due the musicians who work in large ensembles that have been nominated.
