After 37 years at the School of Music and more than 40 at Yale University, Director of Student Services Suzanne Stringer plans to retire at the end of this calendar year. “I’ve been doing it so long it’s my life,” Suzanne has said. “I love the atmosphere of the campus. I like the academic environment.” In her role as Student Services Director (formerly Registrar), Suzanne has offered a great many YSM students a welcoming and guiding voice. Prior to her office’s functions moving online, Suzanne would physically see each student. She has worked for three Deans at YSM and has been part of numerous transformative moments in the School’s history. Her institutional memory reflects the dedication she has brought to her work and the School’s ever-growing global community.

Suzanne started working at Yale part-time as a high schooler, and, while attending the Stone School of Business in New Haven, continued to serve in various roles at the University, where she met her husband, Michael, a Yale alum and employee. Part-time and temporary work led Suzanne in 1981 to a full-time position in Yale’s Student Loan Office. Three years later, she joined the YSM staff, first as a department secretary, then, successively, as an administrative assistant, Financial Aid Director, and Registrar (now Student Services Director). The YSM community will miss Suzanne and wishes her and Michael, who retired from Yale in July 2020, much happiness in the years ahead.
