A fast-rising American conductor and GRAMMY-nominated collaborative pianist, King has worked with some of the classical music industry’s top artists and organizations. Announced in 2023 as Music Director for Opera Memphis, he has emerged as a dynamic artistic leader and civic musician, serving as a community connector through the company’s nationally recognized “30 Days of Opera” program.   

King has worked as an assistant conductor with leading ensembles and conductors, including the Oregon Bach Festival and conductor John Nelson on multiple performance and recording projects, including a critically acclaimed Messiah with the English Concert on the Warner Classics label. He has also served as Associate Conductor with the GRAMMY Award–winning Washington Chorus under Dr. Eugene Rogers, and has collaborated with Des Moines Metro Opera. As a chorus master, he has prepared ensembles for conductors including Leonard Slatkin, Marin Alsop, and Gianandrea Noseda. 

An accomplished collaborative pianist, King has been praised by critics as “magnificent” (Scherzo), “poetic and heroic” (Classical-Modern Music Review), “deft and sensitive” (Chicago Tribune), and “fully alive” (Washington Post). He has worked with celebrated singers including Renée Fleming, J’Nai Bridges, Nicole Cabell, Michael Spyres, Karen Slack, and John Holiday. A longstanding collaboration with baritone Will Liverman has brought performances to major venues across North America and Europe, including Wigmore Hall, the Aspen Music Festival, the Kennedy Center Opera House, and the Oxford International Song Festival. Their recording projects include Whither Must I Wander (Odradek, 2020), named one of the Chicago Tribune’s “Best Classical Recordings of 2020,” and Show Me the Way (Cedille, 2024), nominated for a 2025 GRAMMY Award for Best Solo Classical Vocal Album. 

In addition to his performing career, King has served on the faculty of the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and worked as a répétiteur with organizations including the National Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago.
