Kevin Cobb
Visiting Associate Professor Adjunct of Trumpet Yale School of Music
At YSM Since: 2019
As a teacher, I believe in a personalized approach; supporting the individual through his or her own unique and specific interests. A career in music today can take a variety of forms and I feel the program at Yale can support those looking for a traditional route, as well as those who wish to embark on a different path. I have been fortunate through my career in New York to have played with some of the most highly regarded artists in the classical, jazz, and pop/rock arena. I aim to be a teacher that can provide support for anyone regardless of their interest and background. For anyone who pursues instrumental study at this level, we must honestly assess the weaknesses in order to bring them up to the level of our strengths. This path requires patience and persistence, and my goal is to help each person in their own investigation so that it can not only serve the music, but clarify the reasons and motivation for their pursuit of a life in the arts.
