Victor Wang to join Charlotte Symphony Orchestra as principal flute

Victor Wang '14 BS '15 MM has won the position of principal flute in the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. His appointment will begin in the fall of 2016.

Originally from Rochester, NY, Victor recently completed a year as an inaugural member of The Orchestra Now, a new training orchestra that performs at Bard College and around New York City. Victor is an alumnus of Yale College, where he earned a Bachelor of Sciences in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology, as well as the Yale School of Music, where he graduated with a Master of Music in flute performance.

While at Yale, Victor performed with the Yale Philharmonia and as principal flute with the undergraduate ensemble Yale Symphony Orchestra. Highlights from his time with the Yale Symphony Orchestra include a six-concert tour of Brazil, a performance of Carl Nielsen's flute concerto, and a NAXOS recording of the complete Hindemith piano concertos with Idil Biret. Victor has performed at the Norfolk, Colorado College, Atlantic, and Texas music festivals and will be performing at the Bard Music Festival before moving to Charlotte to begin his appointment with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. His primary teachers include Ransom Wilson and Elizabeth Mann.
