The large body is piriform shaped and shallow. The shell and the neck are one piece; the neck and part of the shell are finished in highly polished black lacquer. The table is finished in bronze lacquer with a broad band of black lacquer above the bridge-tailpiece. Two crescent-shaped soundholes of ivory are set into the belly. The pegbox is set at a 180-degree angle to the neck; there are four lateral conoid pegs. The nut and the four tall frets are of ivory.
