Description

Single-action lever harp with 34 strings. Neck is painted green with two parallel stripes along the top. Where the gold is chipped there is evidence of dark blue paint underneath. There is a leafy vine in gold and red on the back. There is a shield in quadrants: 1st quadrant, three lions; 2nd quadrant, one lion; 3rd quadrant, a harp; 4th quadrant, three animals. The shield is topped with a crown. The Royal Arms appears with a lion and unicorn heads and underneath is a banner: "Dieu et (mon) droit".

Modulation discs for all strings have two prongs except for the top disc which has only one. These discs are operated by levers on the pillar with single action linkages which can be viewed on the underside of the neck.

The pillar is curved and of light hardwood. It is hollow to house the mechanism of the seven levers located up the inside. In order from the bottom to the top they are: D, G, C, F, B, E, and A. All of them can move one notch downward. All four sides of the pillar are decorated with leafy vines in red and gold, and gold lines.

The soundboard is of unpainted spruce, edged with a strip of dark wood, and painted only with two parallel gold lines around the edge. The center strip is punctuated with ivory string buttons (near the top they are wooden on this harp) and in the bottom 13 these alternate with inlaid wooden dowels painted gold.

The soudbox is hemispheric. There are three sets of pairs of oblong holes up the back, each set getting shorter in length toward the top. The wood is painted green with black stripes up the sides. Two parallel gold lines outside of a leafy vine design of gold and red border the sound-box. At the bottom the vines merge in a cluster of leaves in the midst of which there is a metal screw key which holds the retractable bar (placed between the feet for added support – missing from this harp) in place. The bottom set of holes is surrounded by leaves, the second set by less ornate paintings, the third set topped by a sole star.
