New Music Workshop
In keeping with the 2024 Festival theme — Charles Ives & the American Tradition — Martin Bresnick leads this year's workshop with a focus on Charles Ives in honor of the 150th anniversary of Ives' birth. Workshop events and concert are free and open to the public.

James Sinclair on Charles Ives
Noted Charles Ives scholar, James Sinclair, discusses the music and legacy of Ives. The conversation will contextualize Ives’ work for New Music Workshop composition Fellows as they are writing new works using text from one of his art songs.
Tuesday, June 25 | 4pm | Music Shed
Master Class
Yale Faculty pianist J.J. Penna will work with New Music Workshop Fellows on their compositions, providing expertise and feedback on writing music that includes the human voice.

New Music Recital
The New Music Workshop culminates with a performance featuring world premieres by the Norfolk Fellow composers using existing song texts by Charles Ives and performed by an outstanding ensemble of Norfolk Fellow instrumentalists. Part of the Emerging Artist Series.
