Orchestral Conducting at YSM
The orchestral conducting program offers intensive training to gifted young conductors. Students study with Yale Philharmonia Principal Conductor Peter Oundjian and have the opportunity to conduct the orchestra and other ensembles in rehearsal and performance. With no more than two orchestral conducting students enrolled at one time, the program offers each student an experience similar to that of an assistant conductor. Students further develop their techniques and general musicianship through required score-reading and analysis classes, with an emphasis on orchestral repertoire.
